Two appointed to veterans panel

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

Two new members were appointed recently to the five-member Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission.

James Dill replaces Steve Miner, who died in September; and Tony Revetti replaces Leo Connelly Jr., who resigned for health reasons, effective Oct. 7.

Dill, of Struthers, a Vietnam War Army veteran, represents the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He worked for 35 years as an electrician in the steel industry, retiring in 2002, then was a custodian in the Struthers City Schools, retiring in 2013.

A member of VFW Post 3538 in Struthers since 1966, he has been post commander for the past eight years.

Dill also has served as county, district and state commander of that organization.

Dill and his wife, the former Judy Morell, have two daughters and four granddaughters.

Revetti, of Austintown, who represents the Disabled American Veterans, studied business administration at Youngstown State University and graduated from the Sacramento School of Investigation and Security Training and the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy.

Having served in the Air Force from 1971-74, he was an auxiliary Austintown police officer and a part-time Mahoning County deputy sheriff.

He retired in 2002 as a material-handling supervisor at the General Motors Lordstown Fabrication Plant.

Revetti is adjutant for Disabled American Veterans Chapter 2 and a member of American Legion Post 301, VFW Post 1423 and the Vietnam Veterans of America.

He is second vice commander of the United Veterans Council, an umbrella organization of Mahoning Valley veterans’ groups.

Revetti is married to the former Larene Mele.

His son, Joseph, is serving in the Army; and his daughter, Laura, is a teacher of special-needs students.

All members of the county Veterans Service Commission must be military veterans and county residents, and all are appointed by the county’s common-pleas-court judges.

The commission meets weekly to administer assistance payments to veterans in need and to oversee the commission’s 13-member staff.
