Youngstown pub to compete in ’Bama-Buckeye charity burger battle

Staff report

Youngstown

Tonight’s Ohio State-Alabama showdown in the Sugar Bowl has an extra local twist. O’Donold’s Irish Pub and Grill downtown has made a wager with Chubb’s Grub Station in Alabaster, Ala., to raise money for a food bank.

Each restaurant will run game-day specials with proceeds marked for the charity event. Christian Rinehart, owner of O’Donold’s, is making a Buckeye Burger. Will Cholewinski, owner of Chubb’s Grub Station, will have a ’Bama Burger.

Rinehart’s charity is Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley. Cholewinski is competing for Manna Charities.

The Buckeye Burger has a toasted bun topped with a sausage link, pepper jack cheese, bacon and roasted red pepper. It also has cheddar cheese, mozzarella, Buckeye BBQ sauce and pulled pork, topped with an onion ring and held together with a steak knife.

The ‘Bama Burger features a cheese-stuffed patty, homemade sloppy joe sauce and grilled pineapple. It comes with bacon and fried jalapenos.

O’Donold’s will open at 11 a.m.
