Opera to present ‘Rodelinda’

Pittsburgh Opera continues its 76th season with a new production of Handel’s “Rodelinda,” starring the company’s resident artists, with guest musicians Chatham Baroque. The third production of the 2014-15 season, “Rodelinda” will be performed Jan. 24, 27 and 31, and Feb. 1.

Last performed by Pittsburgh Opera in 1993, “Rodelinda” stars Jasmine Muhammad as queen Rodelinda, who endures grief, terror and political upheaval, but remains loyal as she waits — and works — to bring her exiled husband home. Corrie Stallings, Laurel Semerdjian, Adam Bonanni and Phillip Gay also have principal roles.

Crystal Manich is the director. Michael Beattie will conduct members of the Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra with Chatham Baroque.
