Scout Sunday

YOUNGSTOWN

Boy Scout Troop 55 at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave., recognized the 105th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America and its own 86th anniversary at the annual Scout Sunday Service.

The Rev. Rusty Cowden, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Warren, and husband of the Rev. Carolyn Griffeth, interim pastor, presided.

The Rev. Mr. Cowden was a Boy Scout and is a Scout Leader. Scouts of the troop served as greeters, liturgist, played the piano and also collected nonperishable food and monetary donations for the annual Souper Bowl Offering, which was donated to the Protestant Family Service food pantry.

During the service, the congregation of the church presented Scoutmaster Richard Cook Sr. with the God and Service Religious Award for his dedicated service of ministry to the youths of the church and Youngstown.

More than 60 friends, family members and troop members along with the congregation congratulated Cook at a reception after the service.

They thanked him for his many years of service as a Scout leader not only at the church and also in the Boy Scout program in the local area and at Camp Stambaugh.
