A Northeast Ohio man has been found guilty of aggravated murder and other charges in the slayings of his ex-girlfriend and their 5-year-old son.

A Summit County jury on Friday convicted 41-year-old Daniel Tighe of Akron on charges including domestic violence, abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence. The sentencing phase in the potential death penalty case is scheduled to begin March 16.

Tighe was arrested in the 2013 deaths of 31-year-old Wendy Ralston and their son, Peyton, after Ralston’s mother found the decomposed remains wrapped in bedding in woods near her daughter’s home in Tallmadge.

One of the defense attorneys, Joseph Gorman, says Tighe denies responsibility. Gorman says they respect the verdict but are disappointed. He wouldn’t discuss their plans or approach for the mitigation phase.
