Spring Lecture Series to begin March 12

The Canfield Historical Society will kick off it’s Spring Lecture Series on March 12 at 7 p.m.

The first lecture will be presented Master Sargeant Robert Barko, Jr. titled “The Youngstown Air Force Base.” The Youngstown Air Reserve Station history dates to the early 1950’s when it was originally opened as Youngstown Air Force Base. Throughout the years there have been many changes, but the hallmark of pride, professionalism and service to country has remained steadfast. Sargeant Barko will discuss the mission, history, activity and economic impact the 910th Airlift Wing has had on northeastern Ohio.

This free lecture is appropriate for all ages and is open to anyone who would like to attend. Upcoming lectures in the series will also include on April 9, “Salem: Historic Downtown 1860-1920” presented by Ginger Grilli. Judge Cheryl Waite will discuss “The Role of the Appellate Court” on May 14. A short social time and refreshments are also provided with each lecture. All lectures take place at the Canfield Historical Society Bond House. The Bond House is located at 44 West Main Street in Canfield across from the Canfield library. No pre-registration is necessary for any of the lectures in the series. For more information on any of the lectures, call the Canfield Historical Society at 330-533-3458.
