The Austintown library hosted its monthly Bits N Pieces scrapbooking program on Jan. 22.

“People come together and they do scrapbooking,” Austintown library adult services librarian Lindsay Platt said. “We share tips and tricks and different ideas. I don’t really teach them what to do. We just all kind of help each other. It’s almost like a book club.”

The program was in danger of being discontinued, as there had been little attendance since the event was started in September. However, Platt said the program will be expanded to the Boardman library.

“We have had a few people come, and we’re actually taking it out to Boardman in March,” she said. “We’re hoping to get some people out there.”

Platt laid out all the materials needed to scrapbook on a table in the library’s meeting room, such as yarn, paper, tape, markers, glue, stickers, glitter, ribbons, paperclips and several different kinds of scissors that each cuts paper in a different design.

Platt said she hopes that soon the library can supply the stock paper. It only currently offers construction paper.

Platt said there is a social aspect that can be gained by participating in the program.

“Just being able to get out and come together and meet people and learn new ideas,” she said.
