Tri-Gold ABWA to meet

The Tri-Gold Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association will meet on March 11 at A La. Carte Catering in Canfield. The event will begin with social hour at 5:30 p.m and dinner at 6 p.m. The price is $19 and the buffet will consist of baked white fish, stuffed shells, Swiss chicken, sandtrap potato, California blend vegetables, tossed salad, relish tray, rolls and butter, and coffee or tea. Dessert will be pistactio delight. The speaker for the evening will be Ken David on the Topic of The American Veteran. The Crowning of The Chapters 2015-2016 Women of The Year will take place. Austintown Fitch to host Souper Supper

On March 4, the Austintown Council of PTAs and the Fitch Art Department will present the seventh Souper Supper event from 5-7 p.m. in the Fitch High School cafeteria. A $7 donation will include a light meal of soup, a roll, dessert and a beverage, along with a handmade ceramic bowl from Fitch and AIS students and alumni that you get to keep. There will also be musical entertainment from the seventh- and eighth-grade choir, Austintown Middle School jazz band and Fitch orchestra. They will also be hosting a 50/50 raffle and a basket raffle. All proceeds of this event will go to benefit needy families of students of the Austintown Local School District. Pancake breakfast to be March 1

On March 1, the Immaculate Heart of Mary Knights of Columbus #3930 will sponsor a pancake breakfast at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Center, located at 4500 Norquest Blvd. in Austintown, from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. The menu will consist of pancakes, sausage and beverages. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and younger.

BPJWL to meet March 2

The next meeting of the Boardman Poland Junior Women’s League will be on March 2 at Glenellen Assisted Living, located at 9661 Market St. in Boardman, at 7 p.m. Members will be finalizing plans for the upcoming Quarter Auction on March 21 at St. Nicholas Social Hall at 6 p.m. Members can wear green in recognition of St. Patrick’s Day and to welcome Spring. Hostesses for the meeting are Sperry Rongone and Derrie Wilkes. The Boardman Poland Junior Women’s League is open to all women over 18, residing in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties who are interested in friendship, fun and community involvement. Their mission is to provide a creative outlet for women interested in providing community service in areas of arts, conservation, education, home life, international affairs and public affairs. Stencil that

Learn about the stenciling technique and give it a try yourself at the Austintown library on March 2 at 6 p.m. Using a brush, a little paint and a simple stencil you will make a project to take home. Supplies will be provided. This event is for children in grades 4-6.

Saturday Movie Matinee

Join the Austintown library for a Saturday Movie Matinee on March 21 at 2:30 p.m. Bring your own snacks and drinks to enjoy during the movie. Children age 7 and younger must be with an adult. The movie will be a newly released DVD rated PG or G for the family.

Lego my library

Meet and enjoy creating Lego designs on March 4 at 6 p.m. at the Austintown library. Legos will be provided. This event is for children ages 6 and up.

Gotta move story time

This event is for children ages 2-5 who are accompanied by a caregiver. Join the Austintown library at 10 a.m. every Thursday in March for a variety of musical and movement activities that appeal to the “young and restless,” stimulate brain development and motivate language learning. Adults and children, get ready to act out stories and rhymes, sing and dance, talk and play.

Tales and Talk for 2s and 3s

Join the Austintown library for developmentally appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help your child (ages 2-3) become a successful reader at 10 a.m. every Wednesday in March. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Bonding with babies and books

This event is for caregivers and their little ones who are 6-23 months. The Austintown library will offer twenty minutes of language enrichment including rhymes, songs and stories, followed by time to play and socialize every Tuesday in March at 10 a.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Pre-kindergarten story time

This program is for 4- and 5-year-olds and will help to develop pre-literacy and kindergarten readiness skills. The Austintown library will use books, stories, rhymes, music, movement and crafts to help your child get ready for kindergarten at 11:30 a.m. every Wednesday in March.

BPJWL celebrates 35 years

The Boardman Poland Junior Women’s League is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. The league was established in 1979 and federated in 1980. Throughout the last 35 years BPJWL has raised more than $650,000 and donated it back to the local community. There will be a banquet on May 4 at Michael Alberinini’s in Boardman. The league would like to invite anyone who is a charter member, past president or past member to join in the celebration. Women Artists art exhibition

The YWCA Women Artists: A Celebration! Annual Art Exhibition showcases works by local, regional and national women artists, age 18 and older. Entry forms are available by calling 330-746-6361, ext. 102 or at ywca.org/youngstown. They are due no later than March 30. Artists may enter a maximum of five entries. There is a nonrefundable fee of $10 per entry or $45 for five entries. Entry is by CD only. This year’s juror is Susan Talbot-Stanaway, former director of the Zanesville Museum of Art, Zanesville. A preview party for the show will take place from 7-9 p.m. on June 20, at the YWCA. Proceeds from the art show benefit the YWCA Housing Programs.

Art sale

The YWCA of Youngstown will host an art sale from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. March 14 and 15 at the YWCA, located at 25 W. Rayen Ave. This is an opportunity for artists to sell their artwork and for members of the community to purchase original art. The cost for artists is $10 per table. The YWCA will retain a 20 percent commission on all art sales. All artwork must be priced $100 or less. Artwork does not need to be framed. Artists under 18 will need a parent or guardian to reserve the table. Proceeds will benefit the Women Artists Annual Art Exhibition purchase of lighting. Tables are limited. Nomination accepted for Children’s Advocate Awards

Nominations are now being accepted for the annual Children’s Advocate Awards presented by Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley. The purpose of these awards is to recognize individuals and organizations throughout the Mahoning Valley who exhibit the spirit of caring and who work to make a difference in the lives of the children of the communities we serve. Honorees will be recognized at the Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley “Champions for our Valley’s Children” Celebration Dinner on May 12 at The Lake Club. Consider nominating a special individual, group or organization for the Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley Children’s Advocate Award. The deadline for submission is March 16. Open enrollment for Austintown

The Austintown Local School District will have state wide open enrollment for the 2015-16 school year. Applications will be accepted for students in grades K through 9, and will be downloaded on the Austintown website beginning on March 2. In order to be considered for open enrollment, completed applications must be submitted online. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Any student living in the State of Ohio and entering grades K through 9 is eligible. One application must be completed for each student.

Quarter auction

The Austintown Relay For Life Committee is hosting a Quarter Auction on March 7 at The IHM Parish Center in Austintown. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the auction will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 and include event admission, one bidding paddle, soft drinks, appetizers, dessert and one door prize entry. Austintown Local Schools announce Kindergarten Kick-Off

The Austintown Local Schools will be hosting a Kindergarten Kick-Off on March 25 at 6 p.m. at Austintown Elementary School. Students and parents will have the opportunity to tour the kindergarten classrooms, meet staff members and learn about transitioning smoothly from home or preschool to kindergarten. Information on staggered start, summer programs as well as tips to assist your child before and during kindergarten will all be discussed. All incoming kindergarten students, along with their parents, should attend this important event.

Immediate opening in Austintown Local Schools

The Austintown Local Schools have an immediate opening for a Child Specific Paraprofessional (CSP) Bus Aide. Gamblers Anonymous to meet

Gamblers Anonymous, a 12-Step fellowship of compulsive gamblers who want to recover from their gambling addictions, will meet twice this week in the Youngstown-Warren area. A GA meeting is offered every Friday at Westminster Church, located at 119 Stadium Drive in Boardman, and another is offered every Sunday at Christ Church Presbyterian, located at 3425 Hopkins Road in Youngstown (in Cornersburg). 10th annual tasting fundraiser

The Youngstown Area Grocers Association will host its 10th Annual Beer and Wine Tasting fundraiser on March 20 from 6-9 p.m. at Stambaugh Auditorium, located at 1000 Fifth Ave. in Youngstown. Tickets are $50 each or $400 for a reserved table of eight. Guests will have the opportunity to sample more than 100 wines and 50 microbrews, enjoy gourmet food and live entertainment. Second annual community Austim and Disability fair

The Autism Society of Ohio, Mahoning Valley office, is seeking autism service providers to participate in its second Annual Community Autism and Disability Resource Fair on March 22 from 10 a.m until 2 p.m. at the Southern Park Mall in Boardman. Free Tax Filing Link and Assistance

The YWCA of Youngstown is offering a self-serve link to file taxes for free. Also being offered are free tax workshops and free tax filing assistance. The self-serve link is available on the YWCA website at ywca.org/youngstown. To file taxes through this link, users must have a household income under $65,000 if single and $95,000 if married. Also needed are the user’s social security number, W2’s, 1099’s, 1098’s, information about other income, deduction and credit information (such as child care expenses, tuition, bills and union dues) and a copy of last year’s tax return, if possible. For free tax filing assistance, walk-ins will be accepted from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. March 6 and 20, and April 10 at the YWCA, located at 25 W. YWCA Dance-a-thon

The YWCA of Youngstown is seeking participants for a Dance-a-thon to take place from 4-9 p.m. on March 7 at the YWCA of Youngstown, located at 25 W. Rayen Ave. Two people or more may form a team. Also needed are dance groups interested in performing. Individuals and spectators are welcome. The cost is $15 per person for team captain and members, $20 for individuals and $8 for spectators. MCCTC is now accepting applications for 2015-2016

Students interested in attending the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center for the 2015-2016 school year can now apply. The application is available for sophomore students on the school’s website. Current students do not need to reapply. The school offers 22 programs and has a limited number of seats per program. Wintertime tea

Saxon Club to offer Bingo

The Saxon Club, located at 710 South Meridian Road in Youngstown, will now be offering Bingo on Sundays at 6:45 p.m. in the main ballroom. Doors open at 5 p.m. There will be regular Bingo specials, including $10, $15 and $20 packages and tear offs, as well as $10 special packages, pig numbers, birthday specials and more. The Bistro at MCCTC announces new winter and spring hours

Student-operated restaurant, The Bistro at MCCTC, has new winter and spring hours starting in January. The restaurant will be open for dine in or carryout from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Open dates are March 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19 and 31; and April 1 and 2. The Bistro is run by students enrolled in the Culinary Arts Program at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center. This gives students the chance to gain experience in all facets of working in the restaurant industry, from working as kitchen staff and the Sous Chef to waiting tables and hosting. Tax preparation

The library will provide locations for free tax preparation and electronic filing for seniors and those (at any age) with low to moderate income. The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) and the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) Programs offer free tax help for taxpayers who qualify. Twice-Loved Book Sale

Fellows Riverside Gardens will host the Twice-Loved Books Sale through March 1 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Peruse the tables in the Antonucci Horticulture Library for much loved books on gardening, cooking and nature. There will also be magazines for sale. Donations of related used books are appreciated at any time. All proceeds will benefit the Antonucci Horticulture Library.
