After responding to the area twice, police took a man into custody Wednesday morning after they found in his house more than 45 Xanax pills belonging to a neighbor.

Police were called about 10:30 a.m. to a home in the 100 block of West Dennick Avenue on the North Side where a woman said she heard a knock on her door, and a man who she knew pushed her aside and grabbed a makeup pouch out of her purse with her medication, which was a prescription for Xanax, reports said.

The woman said she tried to chase the man but could not. Police arrived, and a police dog was brought in to search for the man but he could not be found, reports said.

About an hour later, police were called by the woman’s boyfriend, who said the man who pushed her and took her medicine was across the street, reports said. Police responded again and found the boyfriend yelling at a man who they said was the person who broke in.

Police approached the 29-year-old man who reports said told them he did not know the couple. He told officers he left his home at 7 a.m. to give blood and returned.

Reports said the suspect and his girlfriend both gave permission for police to search his apartment and they found a prescription bottle with the victim’s name on top of a refrigerator. The suspect could give no explanation how it got there.

Reports said the man was taken into custody and will be charged in municipal court.
