Presidential exhibition at historical society

Staff report

MERCER, PA.

An exhibition of U.S. presidents has opened at the Mercer County Historical Society, 119 S. Pitt St., and will run through March. It features items from the MCHS collection and that of the Lark Family of West Middlesex.

Highlights include documents signed by Presidents Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft and John F. Kennedy, as well as campaign buttons ranging from William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt in 1900 to Barack Obama and Mitt Romney in 2012.

There is also a special display on Kansas Gov. Alfred M. Landon, the 1936 Republican candidate for president. Landon started his campaign in West Middlesex, an appearance that drew 100,000 people — the single-largest event in the history of Mercer County.

The MCHS is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
