Man charged with murder in 3-year-old sister’s death in Ohio

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A prosecutor says a 21-year-old Ohio man whose 3-year-old sister was suffocated has been indicted on murder charges in her death.

Montgomery County’s prosecutor says a grand jury indicted 21-year-old Brian K. Scales Jr. on Tuesday on charges of aggravated murder, murder and endangering children in the death of Tristan Carlton of Trotwood.

A statement from Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. says Scales had been baby-sitting his sister and an 8-year-old sibling in their home on Feb. 14 when the girl’s mother came home and found the 3-year-old child in bed, cold and stiff.

Heck says the investigation determined that the child had been suffocated.

Scales is in Montgomery County’s jail. Bail is set at $500,000.
