Stolen items found

AUSTINTOWN

A number of stolen items were found in a bag Sunday in the township. A resident of Kirk Road called authorities after finding a bag of items in the home’s yard at 2:04 p.m. Sunday. The bag contained six GPS units, two GPS mounting brackets and other items. Some of the GPS units were returned after authorities turned them on and found their home addresses. Several of the units had Canfield addresses.

Sentenced in robbery

YOUNGSTOWN

An East Judson Avenue man was sentenced to four years in prison Monday by Judge Shirley J. Christian of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. Brian Thomas, 41, pleaded guilty Jan. 5 to a charge of aggravated robbery for a crime in a South Avenue parking lot at about 10:55 p.m. April 8. Thomas was charged with using a gun and taking $100, two sets of keys and cellphone from a man.

LORDSTOWN

The Lordstown Board of Public Affairs has scheduled a special meeting to consider candidates for hire at 3 p.m. today at the administration building, 1455 Salt Springs Road.

Lincoln Knolls Community Block Watch meeting, planned for 5:30 p.m. today, has been canceled due to inclement weather.

Roadhouse burns

EAST PALESTINE

Firefighters from several communities fought a blaze early Monday at the Original Roadhouse restaurant on state Route 14. According to The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV, a passerby spotted heavy smoke and flames coming from the building just after 1:15 a.m. First responders reported fire coming through the roof of the building. Just before 2 a.m., firefighters shut down Route 14 in the area of the business, which is between state Route 165 and Waterford Road. Firefighters from Negley, Springfield, Beaver, Leetonia, Columbiana and New Waterford departments were called to assist. A representative from the state fire marshal’s office came to the scene later to try to determine the cause.

Open forum planned

CAMPBELL

The Committee to Save St. Lucy Church will conduct an open forum at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Hall, 401 12th St., to discuss the recent action to make the church an occasional worship site.

St. Lucy is part of Christ, the Good Shepherd Parish that includes St. Rosa de Lima Church at the St. Lucy site, St. John the Baptist and St. Joseph the Provider.
