Program on preventing childhood obesity is Saturday in Boardman

BOARDMAN — “An Ounce of Prevention: A Childhood Obesity Update,” a free program presented by the Mahoning Valley Healthy Kids Coalition, is from 8:30 to noon Saturday at the Holiday Inn, 7410 South Ave.

The speakers are Dr. Peter Vande Kappelle Jr., pediatric cardiologist at Akron Children’s Hospital, who will discuss “Medical Implications of the Overweight Child,” and Dr. Amy Sternstein, coordinator of the Ounce of Prevention Program.

She is an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Ohio State University College of Medicine and a staff physician at the Center for Healthy Weight and Nutrition at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.
