YOUNGSTOWN

Gas prices in Ohio are up to start the workweek.

The cost for a gallon of regular gas in Ohio was averaging $2.33 in Monday’s survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and WEX Inc.

That’s up about a nickel from a week ago.

Monday’s Ohio price is about 42 cents higher than a month ago but $1.14 less than last year at this time.

The national average Monday was $2.30 per gallon. That’s up 5 cents from last week but $1.11 less than a year ago.

Analysts attribute the increased prices at the pump to a jump in crude-oil prices last month and labor strikes at several refineries.

AAA reported the Youngstown/Warren average of regular, unleaded gas at $2.267 per gallon Monday.

To compare, gas was $3.428 a year ago; $1.898 a month ago; and $2.168 a week ago in the Youngstown/Warren area.

Gas stations with the lowest prices Monday included Morgan Oil, 127 Lowellville Road in Struthers, with unleaded gas at $2.099 a gallon; Gateway Gas and Food, 1231 Market St. with unleaded gas at $2.159 a gallon; and Marathon, 4050 Youngstown- Poland Road, with gas at $2.179 a gallon, according to AAA’s Fuel Finder.
