Danielle MacDuff, a local doctor of naturopathy, is offering a free seminar on cholesterol numbers at 6 p.m. Thursday at I.T.T. Technical Center, 1030 N. Meridian Road.

During the seminar, Dr. MacDuff, of DC Chiropratic in Warren, will offer advice on natural ways to lower cholesterol, and there will be a live cooking demonstration and free samples. To register, call 330-505-3515.

Career fair planned at Akron Children’s

AKRON

Akron Children’s Hospital is offering a career fair March 2 in the Considine Professional Building, 215 W. Bowery St. Many of the openings are for positions in the hospital’s new Kay Jewelers Pavilion, slated to open in May.

Interviews will take place from 9 a.m. to noon for engineering (skilled and unskilled craftsmen), environmental services (housekeeping), nutrition services (culinary associates) and visitor monitors.

Interviews for staff nurse positions and operating room technicians are from 2 to 5 p.m. The hospital is recruiting for nurses in several areas: operating room (current Akron campus OR and new outpatient surgery center), burn center, and pediatric intensive care and psychiatric units.

Grant approved

WARREN

S.O.P.H.I.A. (Stop One Place Help Is Available Inc.), a local nonprofit agency at First Presbyterian Church, 256 Mahoning Ave. NW, has been approved for a $5,000 grant from Neighborhood Success, a program of the Raymond John Wean Foundation.

This program was created to support grass-roots groups in small community development projects that improve the quality of life in neighborhoods of Warren and Youngstown, particularly lower-income neighborhoods and those at risk of destabilization.

Podiatrist receives distinguished award

BOARDMAN

Ankle & Foot Care Centers’ managing partner, Dr. Lawrence A. DiDomenico, received the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons’ Distinguished Service Award at the organization’s recent Annual Scientific Conference.

The organization’s board of directors presents this annual award to recognize members who volunteer their time, expertise and service to help advance its mission. Dr. DiDomenico, who practices out of Ankle & Foot Care Center’s Boardman, East Liverpool and Youngstown offices, is the 12th recipient of the award.

He began his podiatry career in 1990 after earning his medical degree from Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. In 1994, he and colleagues Drs. Kenneth Emch and Robert Debiec founded Ankle & Foot Care Centers, which has 19 offices in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties and Greenville, Pa. He is fellowship director at Ankle & Foot Care Centers and Kent State University’s College of Podiatric Medicine.
