GREENFORD

The South Range Board of Education is seeking to fill a vacancy. The board approved a resolution Feb. 16 accepting Bruce Zinz’s resignation.

Zinz cited his recent inability to dedicate time to fulfill his board responsibilities. The board will fill the vacancy by the March 16 board meeting.

The board is accepting letters of interest for the unexpired term from now until Monday. Candidates may be accepted by the board via applications or letters of interest. Submit letters of interest to board President Ralph Wince, 11300 Columbiana-Canfield Road, Suite B, Canfield, OH 44406.

Woman charged

YOUNGSTOWN

A 57-year-old woman was taken to the Mahoning County jail after she led police to a handgun with the serial number filed off.

Officers were called to a home in the 300 block of West LaClede Avenue about 3 p.m. Friday for a report of a fight. A man told them he had been fighting with his girlfriend, Charleen Thomas, 57, and she pointed a gun at him.

Thomas showed up while they were taking a report and offered to lead them to the gun, reports said. Police found it at West LaClede and Hudson avenues buried under snow. The gun was not loaded, reports said.

Thomas was arrested on a charge of possession of a defaced firearm and domestic violence by intimidation, reports said.

Man faces charges on several warrants

YOUNGSTOWN

A man who was booked into the Mahoning County jail late Sunday on warrants after being found in a stolen vehicle had three packets of suspected heroin in his shoe, reports said.

Tyrell Williamson, 36, of Austintown, was found in a truck reported stolen out of Austintown about 10:25 p.m. and pulled over in a drive in the 500 block of East Avondale Avenue and taken to the jail on several warrants and a charge of receiving stolen property.

The suspected heroin was found by corrections officers as he was being searched before being booked. An additional charge of possession of heroin was added.
