Brady, Anderson key D2 state swimming qualifiers

Canfield seniors Connor Brady and Kyle Anderson each qualified in four events for this weekend’s Division II state swim meet at C.T. Branin Natatorium.
Brady is seeded fifth in both the 100-yard butterfly and the 100 backstroke and will join Anderson, Matthew Bogen and Ben Brucoli on the 200 medley relay, which is also seeded fifth.
Brady will join Brucoli, Bogen and Alec Gaetano on the 400 free relay, which is seeded 11th.
Anderson is seeded 14th in the 500 free and 15th in the 200 IM and will swim with Cullen Brady, Kamran Sarac and Gaetano on the 200 free relay, which is seeded 21st.
The Cardinals have sent at least one relay to the state meet every year since 2006.
Bogen was Canfield’s only other individual qualifier. He is seeded 23rd in the 100 breast.
The top two placers in last weekend’s district meet earned automatic qualifying berths to Canton, with the others qualifying based on statewide times.
Each event will feature 24 swimmers/relays.
Brady placed second in the 100 fly at last year’s state meet and seventh in the 100 back.
In girls competition, Cardinal Mooney’s Taylor Tofil will make her second trip to state competition. She qualified 24th in the 100 butterfly. She placed 20th in the event at the 2013 state meet.
Division II swimming preliminaries begin at 5 p.m. on Thursday with the finals on Friday at 5.
Girard diver Savannah Teter and East Palestine diver Faith Anderson are also making return trips to the state meet. Teter is seeded sixth and Anderson 10th. They will compete at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
Teter finished eighth at last year’s state meet and Anderson placed 19th.
Division I qualifiers were not available Sunday night.
The Division I preliminaries will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday with the finals beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
