Swearing-in ceremony for Meacham March 3
YOUNGSTOWN
Ralph T. Meacham will be sworn in as Mahoning County auditor at 5:15 p.m. March 3 in the rotunda of the county courthouse, 120 Market St.
His four-year term of office begins March 9. Meacham became the first Republican elected to a nonjudicial countywide office here in 30 years when he unseated Michael V. Sciortino, a Democrat, in last November’s election.
Dog warden to speak in Brownlee Woods

The Brownlee Woods Neighborhood Association meeting will take place Thursday at Faith Community Church, 1919 E. Midlothian Blvd. Refreshments and social time begins at 6 p.m. and the business meeting will start at 6:30.
Councilman John R. Swierz, D-7th, will give a report on issues concerning the neighborhood and any events and subjects citywide affecting the area. Guest speaker will be deputy dog warden Dave Nelson.
18 high schools to build bridges at YSU
YOUNGSTOWN
Thirty-five teams from 18 area high schools will take stabs at building the best foot-long balsa-wood bridge at the eighth annual Miniature Bridge Building Competition on Friday in Kilcawley Center at Youngstown State University.
Among the schools registered to participate are Bristol, Brookfield, Champion, Chaney STEM, Hubbard, Jackson-Milton, LaBrae, Lowellville, Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, Mineral Ridge, Niles-McKinley, Poland Seminary, South Range, Springfield, Trumbull County Career and Technical Center, Ursuline, Western Reserve and Youngstown Early College.
Awards will be given for first and second place for the most efficient bridge; a strength award for the bridge which carries the heaviest load; aesthetics; teamwork; and most improved. The Wade Harvey Design Award, which includes efficient, aesthetics and complexity, is also given in honor of Wade Harvey, a founding member of the event who died of cancer in 2010.
Sky shows at YSU
YOUNGSTOWN
Youngstown State University’s Ward Beecher Planetarium will present “Firefall” at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The planetarium also will show “Dynamic Earth” at 1 and 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free.
