Thiel to livestream Mrs. Fields’ address

GREENVILLE, PA.

Debbi Fields, founder of the multimillion-dollar company Mrs. Fields Original Cookies Inc., will speak to students, faculty and staff at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Thiel College’s Bly Hall. Fields will be speaking from Chapman University, Orange, Calif., and streamed live to Thiel. Attendees will submit questions via Twitter and Facebook. Those questions will be answered live during the broadcast. Fields, also a New York Times best-selling author, has since sold her company, which is a market leader among fresh-baked cookie stores.

NAACP youth council to meet

YOUNGSTOWN

The youth council of the Youngstown Unit of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will meet from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the large meeting room of Newport Library, 3730 Market St. Planning for upcoming events, including participation in next Sunday’s commemoration downtown of the freedom march over the Pettus Bridge in Selma, Ala., will be discussed. Beavers program at Jennings center

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.

Jennings Environmental Education Center, 2951 Prospect Road, will offer a natural history program about beavers from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday. The Jennings staff will teach participants about the animal that has made its presence known again at the park after a decade of absence. The presentation will highlight the beaver’s adaptations to life in the water and capability of modifying its environment to promote its own survival. The program is free, and no registration is required.

WR Boy Scouts annual breakfast

The Greater Western Reserve Boy Scout Council will have its annual Wood Badge and National Youth Leadership Training Breakfast for Scout leaders March 14 in the Johnson Community Center. Breakfast will be served from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m., with registration/check-in starting at 8:30 a.m. Registration is available at www.bsa-gwrc.org on the Internet. There will be a silent auction, regular auction and The Cookie’s Wood Badge Trading Post. Cost is $12 before Thursday and $15 after that. Proceeds will benefit the scholarship fund to assist adults and leaders to attend advanced training.
