BOARDMAN

A popular Pittsburgh-based restaurant tentatively plans to open a new location in the township by early fall.

Primanti Bros., known for its coleslaw- and french fry- topped sandwiches, is going through the planning process to move into the former Hollywood Video at 6731 South Ave.

The company plans to start work at the location at the start of the construction season.

“It will start very soon, once we have our ducks in order,” said a spokeswoman for the company.

Before construction can begin at the site, the company has to get final approval from the township. It will have to get a variance from the zoning department since the location has only 47 parking spots instead of the 90 spots that are required.

Primanti Bros. plans to tear down the existing building and construct a new one, as well as add new landscaping, township Zoning Inspector Sarah Gartland said.

The company told the township zoning department it wants to open by August, Gartland said. The company told The Vindicator on Friday that an opening date in early fall is its goal.

The company also recently submitted paperwork to begin the process of obtaining a liquor license, township officials said.

Primanti Bros., which opened in Pittsburgh’s Strip District in 1933, operates about two dozen restaurants, mostly in the greater Pittsburgh area, according its website.

The restaurant’s specialty, along with its late-night hours, is towering sandwiches topped with meat, cheese, coleslaw and french fries on Italian bread.
