Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 618 Ohio Ave., and St. Rose Parish in Girard will sponsor Lent Evenings of Reflection from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday. The Rev. James Walker will present “The Church to Heal and Be Healed: Reflections on the Gospel of Mark, The Task of Building and Rebuilding the Church.” Father Walker is pastor at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Warren. His reflections focus on renewal of the mission of the Church to proclaim the Kingdom of God in challenging times. “Jesus Heals from Within” will be presented Sunday, “Jesus Saves Us as the Messiah We Struggle to Accept” on Monday and “Jesus Renews His Church with an Authority Like No Other” on Tuesday. All are welcome. A free-will offering will be accepted. Refreshments will follow in the church hall.

Parish mission

YOUNGSTOWN

St. Edward Church, 240 Tod Lane, will sponsor a parish mission with the Rev. Joseph Jablonski of Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, who will present a “Life’s Healing Journey.” The programs will take place at 7 p.m. March 1-3. He will provide an opportunity to take a look at our lives with a new perspective of God’s unconditional love. Participants will learn about the tools necessary to make the changes to let go and transform these effects to live a life that is fulfilled, free and with a healthy spirituality. He has been a professed member of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart since 1970 and a priest since 1976. His pastoral ministry includes 22 years of service in Bogota, Colombia. In the U.S., he has served in parish ministry, retreat ministry, vocation ministry and spiritual direction and was the provincial superior of the USA province for six years. For the past six years, he has been part of the team the Life’s Healing Journey retreats throughout the U.S. and abroad.

The Rev. Shawn Conoboy and Diana Haranchecko will be the featured speakers when the First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown meets March 5 at Antone’s Banquet Centre, 8578 Market St. Father Conoboy is pastor of Christ the Good Shepherd Parish in Campbell and Haranchenko, pastoral ministry at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Boardman. Their topic will be “Young Adult Ministry.” The luncheon is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $16. Concert at church

Damascus United Methodist Church, 300 Valley Road, will present the Colonial City Quartet in concert at 6 p.m. Sunday. The event is open to the public. The group combines four-part harmony of traditional Southern Gospel and sings old hymns, popular Christian songs and patriotic selections. A free-will offering will be taken. Fellowship and refreshments will follow the concert.

“The Journey of Black History Through Song” will be presented at 5 p.m. Sunday at Monument of Faith Church of God in Christ, 2165 Highland Ave. SW. Bishop’s Choir and Monument of Faith praise dancers and flag ministry will perform. Bishop David L. Herron Sr. is host pastor.

Seminar on deaths

HERMITAGE, PA.

“Dealing with Difficult Deaths” is the theme of the Shenango Valley’s seventh annual training seminar for fire chaplains, police chaplains and clergy. The class will be offered May 18 and 19 at Hermitage Fire Department on Maple Drive and also is open to medical professionals, firefighters, law-enforcement officers and emergency medical service personnel. The Rev. Dr. William Lotz of Spokane, Wash., director of training for the international Federation of Fire Chaplains, will teach the course. He previously taught “Essentials of Fire Chaplaincy” in Hermitage in 2009. The annual seminars bring an average of 30 chaplains and other clergy from several states to the Shenango Valley.
