Boardman Park sets attendance record for 2014

BOARDMAN

Boardman Park set an all-time highest attendance record in 2014, the park announced this week.

Nearly half a million people visited the park in 2014, which is a 3 percent increase from 2013 and the highest number of annual visitors in the park’s history.

The greatest increase in attendance was for programs and events sponsored by the park.

“We believe that the continued increase in usage of the park clearly demonstrates that Boardman Park is one of the most popular recreational areas in the Mahoning Valley,” Daniel Slagle, park director, said in a news release.

Drug sentence for city man

CLEVELAND

A Youngstown man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, followed by eight years of supervised release, after he pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and maintaining a drug house, the U.S. attorney said.

Terrence D. Howell, 43, drew the sentence Friday from U.S. District Court Judge Dan Aaron Polster.

Howell possessed more than an ounce of crack last April 30 and used an Arch Street home in Youngstown to manufacture and distribute the drug between February and April 2014, according to court documents.

The case was prosecuted by David M. Toepfer, a Youngstown-based assistant U.S. attorney, following an investigation by the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
