Trumbull countywide 911 plan modified so Warren can join
Staff report
WARREN
The Trumbull Countywide 911 Planning Committee Thursday approved expanding the territory of the countywide 911 system to include Warren.
It is one of several steps necessary for Warren to turn over police dispatching duties to the county system. Anther step is for county commissioners to approve the change, said Ernie Cook, chief deputy at the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office and county 911 director.
Warren City Council also must give its safety-service director, Enzo Cantalamessa, permission to enter into an agreement with the county.
The Planning Committee also authorized Cook to purchase software that would create a “virtual network” that includes the Niles, Girard and Lordstown dispatching centers.
The upgrades would allow dispatchers to continue to handle call-taking duties at those locations while being connected to the county 911 center as if they were physically located at the county center, Cook said.
That concept will be presented to the Ohio Department of Public Safety for it to determine whether that plan is acceptable, Cook said.
All four members of the 911 Planning Committee approved the changes. They are Warren Mayor Doug Franklin, Niles Mayor Ralph Infante, McDonald Mayor Glenn Holmes and Trumbull County Commissioner Mauro Cantalamessa. The position representing the townships is vacant.
