MVMC, Youngstown expect grant answer next week

YOUNGSTOWN

By the end of February, the Mahoning Valley Manufacturing Coalition and others will find out if they received a $50,000 state grant.

The state grant, submitted through the Local Government Innovation Fund by the City of Youngstown, will fund a feasibility study to figure out the cost for a potential manufacturing lab space for area educational institutions to share.

“We are hopeful it will go through and we hope to start that [study] immediately,” said Jessica A. Borza, MVMC’s executive director.

Members of the MVMC were provided an update on the grants the coalition has in place and other updates at the quarterly member meeting on Friday at Mahoning County Career and Technical Center.

The coalition presented its work to bridge the gap between the curriculum in the classroom and the credentials employers want to see from potential employees in machining.
