HOWLAND
A Chick-fil-A is coming to Trumbull County.
The fast-food-restaurant franchise that specializes in chicken sandwiches, nuggets and milkshakes has all the permits needed from Howland Township zoning to begin construction.
“We are looking forward to having it up and running,” said Darlene St. George, township administrator. “I know members of the community expressed their eagerness to have a Chick-fil-A in the community.”
GBC Design Inc. of Akron submitted the initial application for zoning approval on behalf of Chick-fil-A in August 2014.
The Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A expects construction on the new 4,791-square-foot building to begin when the weather breaks in spring. The projected opening is in late summer or early fall.
“Everything is in place,” said Peter Ross, Howland zoning administrator.
The company had to receive some variances from zoning for the project on parking. A conditional-use permit was provided to the company to have a larger outdoor dining area.
“They are really doing a nice job with the landscape,” Ross said.
The location’s address will be 1885 Niles-Cortland Road SE.
The closest locations to this are at Youngstown State University, Southern Park Mall and on U.S. Route 224 in Boardman, according to the company’s website. Chick-fil-A has more than 300 shopping-mall restaurants, 1,200 stand-alone locations and 35 drive-thru locations in the country. Chick-fil-A’s systemwide sales in 2013 reached $5 billion.
