'A Few Good Men' at Salem theater

Staff report

SALEM

Salem Community Theatre will present the Aaron Sorkin drama “A Few Good Men,” opening Friday and running for two weekends.

Though many may be familiar with the Oscar-nominated 1992 movie starring Tom Cruise, Demi Moore and Jack Nickolson, the original stage play was produced on Broadway in 1989, and revived in 2011. One of famed screenwriter Aaron Sorkin’s earliest forays into dramatic writing, the play is based on events that took place at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in July 1986.

Salem’s production features Carl Brockway as LTJG Kaffee, Chuck Simon as Col. Jessep and Allyson DePanicis as LCDR JoAnne Galloway. The cast is rounded out by Ed Phillips, Gary Barringer, Mike Hill, Bob Greier Jr., Jimmy Rosan, Mark Kholos and Curtis and Dillon Kerner.

The play deals with the military code of honor, and for this reason, the theater is offering free tickets to veterans and current members of the armed forces.

Bill Finley is directing the play. Finley most recently directed the comedy “Fox On the Fairway” at Salem.

Performances of “A Few Good Men” will be at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and again Feb. 27 and 28; and 2 p.m. Sunday and March 1. Tickets are $15 ($11 for senior citizens and $9 for students). For reservations, call 330-332-9688.
