Fight leads to shots fired outside Denny’s

LIBERTY

A fight between two men in Denny’s Restaurant on Belmont Avenue late Saturday led to gunshots being fired in the parking lot.

When one of the men went to his car to get a gun and the other man attempted to flee the scene, several bullets hit the drivers’s side door of his car. Liberty police said when his car was hit by shots, the driver crashed into a parked car causing extensive damage, according to 21 WFMJ TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

The incident occurred just after 11:30 p.m. Police said people inside the restaurant barricaded themselves in a back room for protection when they heard shots fired. No patrons were hurt during the incident.

No one was injured by the shots, police said.

Bert Dawson, Columbiana County engineer, is the 2015 chairman of the Ohio State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors. The board is the state agency that regulates and licenses engineering and surveying in Ohio.

Guardian Angels

The Guardian Angels of Ohio, a volunteer program of the Trumbull County Probate Court, is looking for new volunteers. A meeting is planned for 5:30 p.m. March 3 at Perkins Family Restaurant, 1953 Niles-Cortland Road SE.

Angel volunteers receive training to become advocates who reach out as friends to seniors who may need a friendly phone call, a visit in a nursing home, or a visit at home. Angels are also involved in planning special events for seniors such as health fairs and Make a Difference Day projects.

Scholarship brunch

The Gerald L. Morgan Scholarship Foundation will host a fundraising brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 7 at the Chop House Restaurant, East Market Street.

Dr. Morgan is the founder and host of the brunch, with Dr. Alton L. Merrell Jr. as the guest speaker and Lester Stovell as musical guest. Lecture at YSU

YOUNGSTOWN

Tim King, a Youngstown State University alumnus and cultural GIS lead for Gray & Pape Inc., will lecture at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Gallery in Kilcawley Center.

King will talk about how changing technologies have impacted the way cultural resources are mapped and managed over time. The event, which is free and open to the public, is cosponsored by the YSU Anthropology Colloquium and the YSU Geography Club.
