AUSTINTOWN

Township police are investigating a case of felonious assault after multiple shots were fired at a house in the 2200 block of Elm Trace Street.

Police responded to the residence just after midnight Friday, according to a police report. Police said more than 10 shots hit various sides of the house.

Several people were in the house at the time of the shooting, and police are investigating several other people as suspects.

Boy, 14, arrested

YOUNGSTOWN

Police arrested a 14-year-old boy at a home in the 700 block of Delaware Avenue about 1:20 p.m. Thursday after the boy’s mother was slashed several times with a knife.

According to police reports, the 34-year-old mother told police she and her son argued over food, and he ran away. She called 911 to report him missing, and he returned to the North Side home, reports said.

Reports said when he returned, the mother ordered him to go to his room. Instead, the boy pulled a pocket knife and slashed her several times, giving her cuts on her chest and arms, and her shirt also was cut open.

The woman refused medical treatment, reports said. The boy was taken to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center.

Skating event

YOUNGSTOWN

Mill Creek MetroParks will have a Youngstown Phantoms Skate/Meet and Greet at the Lily Pond from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Monday as long as weather permits safe skating conditions.

The Lily Pond also will be open for supervised skating Monday from noon to 6 p.m. Supervised skating over the weekend will be available Friday from 3 to 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

State competition

CANFIELD

Students in robotics at Mahoning County Career and Technical Center will compete for the first time in the state tournament. The competition, which includes 36 teams, is set for Friday and next Saturday at Marion Technical College in Marion, Ohio. Winners of the state competition advance to the national tournament in April in Louisville, Ky.

Library closed

The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW, will be closed Sunday due to the expected cold temperatures.

Visit with mayor

YOUNGSTOWN

The monthly “Five Minutes with the Mayor” will take place at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the mayor’s office on the first floor of city hall, 26 S. Phelps St. Citizens are invited to visit with Mayor John A. McNally and ask questions or raise concerns they may have regarding issues in the city.
