CAMPBELL

A man attempted to flee from court at the Campbell Municipal Courthouse on Friday morning.

About 10:48 a.m., Demetrius Dawson, 27, of Campbell appeared at the courthouse for a probation-violation hearing, but he fled down Tenney Avenue and ended up in an abandoned house on Bright Avenue, police said.

Police pursued him and found him upstairs at the house where they arrested him.

Dawson was among the five people charged in a major drugs and weapon arrest Tuesday afternoon. During that incident, police said they found him with suspected marijuana and charged him with possession of drugs. According to court records, Dawson entered a not-guilty plea with a pretrial date set for Feb. 24.

Others from Tuesday’s arrest also appeared in court Friday. Rakeem Gray, 24, of Campbell and Bernard Hasley Jr., 25, of Youngstown both entered no plea to their charges with a pretrial set for Friday, and bond set at $6,000 for each. Gray is charged with drug trafficking. Hasley is charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

Jennette Shipton, 40, of Campbell pleaded not guilty to child endangerment. Her 16-year-old daughter was at the apartment. Her pretrial was set for Feb. 24 with bond set at $2,500.

Stacey Gray, 23, of Campbell posted a $5,860 bond. He was arrested for an active warrant issued before Tuesday’s incident.

The arrests occurred at an apartment at Kirwan Homes on Monroe Street. Police found suspected marijuana, a digital scale, and a loaded handgun.
