MVCA winter social takes place Sunday

The Mahoning Valley Coaches Association is having their winter social on Sunday at the West Fork restaurant in Youngstown. Dinner starts at 6 p.m and the cost $10. The association will pass out the coaching awards and the $5 dues will be collected. The guess speaker for the event is Chris Ash, co-defensive coordinator for the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Also, the Quad County Coaches Association is hosting a coaches clinic at the Hollywood Gaming Racino in Austintown on Feb. 20 and 21. Cost is $25 per coach or $40 at the door. For more information contact Bob Spaite at 330-692-1153.
Canfield basketball tickets on sale Tuesday

Tickets for the Poland at Canfield boys basketball game at 7 p.m on Feb. 20, go on sale at the Canfield High School athletic office starting Tuesday morning. Office hours are from 8 a.m-4 p.m. Students tickets cost $4, adult tickets cost $6 and reserved seating is $8.
Cockrell picks Muskingum University

Canfield senior Darby Cockrell has committed to continuing her education and softball career at Muskingum University.
At Canfield Darby looks forward to earning her senior year on the softball team, where she assisted the team in winning a District championship and two District runners-up finishes. She has also played on various area travel teams which have achieved honors, including a second place finish at Nationals and an Ohio state championship. She is a member of the Silver Creek Starz 18U Elite showcase team, playing first and third base.
At Muskingum, Darby plans to major in nursing, and then continue on to become a nurse practitioner.
Hubbard HOF to induct ten athletes

Ten athletes will go into the Hubbard High School All Sports Hall of Fame for the class of 2015.
Tom Craig Jr., Marty Kanetsky Jr., and Glenn Silvidi are being inducted for “achievement” for prospering in multiple sports. Craig was a standout in baseball, basketball and golf, Kanetsky in football, basketball and baseball, and Silvidi in wrestling and football.
The other members of the class of 2015 include: Tom Kopp (Football), Sam Tucciarone (Basketball), Janine Cox Younkins (Basketball), Chantae Hendrix Eperjesi (Track) Bruce Hinkle (Wrestling), Shaun Lane (Football), Eugene White Sr. (Wrestling). The banquet is April 25, at Saint Patrick’s Church Hall. Tickets are $30 per person and are available by calling Julianne Carsone at 330-503-1564. No tickets will be sold at the door.
Four Howland athletes decide on colleges

Taylor Craigo a track and field runner has selected Marshall University. Taylor is a three year letter winner and standout performer in track and field. She holds the school record in the 1600m (5:11.38) and the 3200m (11:38.00).
Offensive lineman Mike Bell and running back Jaquore Marrs have selected Alderson Broaduss University in Philippi, WV. Bell, (6-2, 270) was selected to the all-Trumbull County, all-AAC., all-district, and All-Ohio teams. Mike has also been selected to play in the prestigious North vs South All Star Game in April.
Marrs (5-10, 185) has contributed over 3,000 yards rushing for the Tigers over the last three seasons. Jaquore was also selected to the all-Trumbull County, all-AAC, and all-district teams in 2014.
Defensive lineman Jake Hocevar, (6-2,305) has selected Youngstown State University to continue his playing career. Hocevar has been an anchor on the Tiger defensive line for the past two seasons recording 26 solo tackles and 11 tackles for loss in 2014. Jake was selected to the all-Trumbull County and all-AAC teams this past fall.
