A Boardman man was indicted Thursday by a Mahoning County grand jury on 15 counts of aggravated arson in a Jan. 7 fire at his apartment in the 1900 block of Wolosyn Circle.

Michael Muersch, 35, faces one count for the damage to the building and an additional 14 counts for the threat to safety of others in the apartment building.

Firefighters and police officers responded to the building after calls came in about a fire and a man jumping from a third-story window. Police say the man, the apartment’s tenant, jumped from the window to escape the fire.

The landlord told police he has had problems with the tenant recently, according to a police report.

Fire officials discovered several incendiary devices placed throughout the apartment, such as liquor bottles with paper and cloth stuffed into them. The apartment door also was barricaded from within, according to the report.

Also indicted by a grand jury on charges of vehicular assault and aggravated vehicular homicide was Shaun Jenkins, 20, of Canfield, for an Oct. 4 accident that killed 19-year-old Bryan Deal.

The indictment does not give any details of the accident.
