Canfield trustees approve storm water project

CANFIELD

Trustees this week approved funding for a project to repair damaged pipes.

“We had a bunch of erosion that had taken place from the storm water runoff from the turnpike,” with pipes on Pebble Beach Drive, said Keith Rogers, township administrator.

Heavy rains would causes lids for manholes and catch basins to come off. Three areas of pipes will be removed and replaced.

The project for Pebble Beach Drive is budgeted for $215,000. The township will receive $170,000 for the project through the Ohio Turnpike Commission and the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Rogers explained funding from those two entities is used for communities impacted by the turnpike, such as run-off problems.

There is no contractor yet as the township will put the work out to bid this spring. The work is expected to start in late July.

Trustees also unanimously approved purchasing 10 cutting edges for the township’s road crews. That price is not to exceed $2,300, but the township was able to save on free shipping and $23 per edge, officials pointed out.

Trustee Brian Governor pushed for a future meeting to discuss the township website, a project he has spearheaded. That meeting will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the township hall as the township continues to upgrade its website and technology overall.
