BCMS boys defeat Poland

Boardman Center Middle School defeated Poland 42-26 on Feb. 5. After being tied 17-17 at halftime, the Spartans tightened up on the defensive end and kept Poland scoreless in the third quarter. Cam Kreps lead the Spartans in scoring with 11. Bobby Cavalier and Tino Arcuri each tallied nine. Mikey Morris added four while Luke Stauffer hit a three-pointer. Brandon Kuehn and Malcom Joyner each scored a bucket. Kareem Hamdan and Joe Ieraci each contributed a free throw.

BCMS seventh-grade boys lose to Poland

The Boardman Center Middle School seventh-grade boys basketball team squared off with Poland in their last regular season game of the year on Feb. 5. In a back and fourth first half, Center found themselves down by three. The boys came out of halftime and went on a 12-1 run keeping Poland to a one point third quarter. In the fourth quarter, it was a battle but to much offense by Poland led the Bulldogs to escape with a win. The Spartans fell 39-34. Scorers for Center were Charlie Davis with eight, Griffin Schantz, Derrick Anderson and Hayden Lyda with six, Tyler Peterson with four, Wrentie Martin with two and Jimmy Goske with a free throw. With that loss center wraps up the regular season with a 9-5 record.

BCMS seventh-grade boys defeat Canfield

The Boardman Center Middle School boys seventh-grade basketball team defeated Canfield on Feb. 4 with a score of 45-27, Center came out on fire in the first half by going on a 26-9 run. Eleven Spartans found their names in the scoring column. Leading the way was Derrick Anderson with 12, Charlie Davis with 11, Wrentie Martin with five, Griffian Schantz with four, Jimmy Goske, Justin Cina, Hayden Lyda, Roman DiFalco, Tyler Utsinger and Hunter Needham each netting two and Tyler Peterson chipped in with a free throw.

BCMS girls defeat Poland

The Boardman Center Middle School girls basketball team defeated Poland by the score of 49-37 on Feb. 5. It was a great effort led by Ashley Saxtons with 20 points, followed by Maya Stinson with 10 points, Cailyn Covan netting nine points, Alicia Saxton with four points, Kaia Anderson and Ali Kuras with two points each, and both Angelina Holzschuh and Jersey Gorby both scoring one point each.

Boardman Center girls fall to Canfield

The Center Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team lost a hard fought game to Canfield 42-2 on Feb. 4. Alicia Saxton led the scoring with eight points, followed by Cailyn Covan with four, Maya Stinson and Angelina Holzschuh with three each, Jersey Gorby with two and Autumn Stanford scoring one.

Boardman Center boys fall to Canfield

The Center Middle School boys dropped a hard fought battle with Canfield 37-30 on Feb 4. A slow start and compounding turnovers did the Spartans in. Center trailed 16-6 at halftime after failing to score in the second quarter.

An explosive 15 point third quarter put Boardman right back in the game. Center would close the gap to 28-27 before Canfield sealed the game at the free throw line. Cam Kreps and Bobby Cavalier led the Spartans with nine points each. Mickey Morris added six and Joe Ieraci pumped in two free throws.

BGMS falls to Youngstown East

The Boardman Glenwood Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball team fell to Youngstown East 43-41 on Feb. 4 at Chaney High School. The game was back and forth all night as leads exchanged hands many times in the second half.

A costly turnover by BGMS and a great shot with 2.1 seconds to go gave East the win. Boardman Glenwood was led in scoring by Nick Torres with 18 points on the night. Che Trevena cashed in three triples to tally his nine points. Shay Eicher canned two 3’s for his six points. Ryan Archey had four points. Jimmy Baker canned a three, while Manny Perez and Michael Fetsko added a bucket for the Spartans.

BGMS defeat Youngstown East

The Boardman Glenwood Middle School eighth-grade girls defeated the Youngstown East Lady Panthers on Feb. 4 by a score of 34-19. Kaylin Burkey and Cate Green led the Lady Spartans with 10 points each. Brooke Hoffman added seven points, Jenna Benko chipped in with five, Kailee James two and Ali Swavel with one point. BGMS also had strong defensive efforts from Mara Hierro, Mitzie Martin, Hannah Nawrocki, Emily Carnahan and Harley Realty.

Varsity boys basketball loose to Hudson

Boardman varsity boys basketball team ran into a hot shooting Hudson team on Feb. 3 at Boardman. The Explorers opened the game on a 12-2 run and never looked back. Boardman started out the game very slow and sloppy, with 10 turnovers in the first quarter.

The game settled down in the second quarter, but by then the hole was too deep to climb out of.
