US Sen. Sherrod Brown seeks support from Defense Secretary nominee for YARS

VIENNA — During a meeting with Dr. Ashton Carter, the nominee to be the U.S. Secretary of Defense, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Cleveland, said he pressed Carter on his support of the modernization of Ohio’s C-130H fleet and communications updates to meet federal and international standards by 2020, and sought his support for Youngstown Air Reserve Station’s bid to host 12 KC-46A refueling tankers.

Both efforts would retain or bring new work to YARS, which is home to the 910th Airlift Wing and a strong candidate for this refueling mission,” said Brown.

In his meeting today with Carter, Brown asked for his support for two Ohio Reserve Bases to be hosts to the 12 KC-46A refueling tankers: YARS and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base are both up for consideration, Brown said.
