Coffee with the Birds

When: Saturday, 9:30–11 a.m.

What: Join Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist Nancy Brundage to watch birds while sipping coffee (or tea) for the 18th annual Great Backyard Bird Count. Bring favorite mug.

Where: Ford Nature Center, 840 Old Furnace Road, Youngstown.

GBBC BIRD COUNT

When: Friday, 9-11 a.m.

What: Join Nature Center staff and members of Canton Audubon Society in Great Backyard Bird Count.

Where: Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center Visitors Center, 16146 Daniel St. NE, Minerva.

Cost: Free

Details: Refreshments provided. Registration requested but not required.

Bluebird Box Workshop

When: Saturday, 1–3 p.m.

What: Learn about Eastern Bluebirds and make nest box to help their population, then hike to bluebird trail along MetroParks Bikeway.

Where: MetroParks Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road, Canfield.

Cost: $15 residents; $18, NR, per nest box.

LEARN TO BIRD

When: Saturday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

What: Learn to use binoculars for great close-up looks; become familiar with several field guides to bird identification. Binoculars and field guides available to borrow.

Cost: Free

WINTER BOTANY

When: Sunday, 2-4 p.m.

What: Learn to identify trees in winter using twigs, bark and growth form with Dr. Chuck McClaugherty. Portions of program will be indoors and outdoors.

Coffee with master gardeners

When: Wednesday, 9:30 a.m.-noon.

What: Soil Basics: Bill Snyder will go through hands-on activities to help you gain better understanding of your soil so you can grow bigger, more beautiful plants.

Cost: $20 per person.

Orchid Clinic

When: Wednesday, 2–4 p.m.

What: Stop by with questions for our orchid experts, Dave Miller and Jackie Land. Bring your problem orchids so they can help you get them back on track. Orchid bark mix and orchid pots will be available to buy for nominal fee.
