Cleveland streets official demoted over snow-plowing complaints

CLEVELAND (AP) — A northeast Ohio streets commissioner has been demoted after officials said the city’s snow removal efforts missed the mark after last week’s winter weather.

After a winter storm dumped at least a foot of snow in parts of northern Ohio last week, Cleveland residents and city leaders say it took days for streets to be cleared, and some still remain covered in ice and snow.

Cleveland officials say Streets Commissioner Rob Mavec has been demoted and that the city will consider other personnel changes.

Cleveland Chief Operating Officer Darnell Brown says all staff is held accountable and that the city will do better moving forward.

Officials say about a third of the city’s aging snow plows are out of order.
