Area police chiefs ask pastors to help with violent-crime reduction

YOUNGSTOWN — In order to continue to reduce violent crime in the city, police Chief Robin Lees said he needs help.

That’s why he reached out to Youngstown-area pastors today, through the city’s Community Initiative to Reduce Violence, to aid in that mission.

About 30 pastors attended the meeting at the Covelli Centre with Lees, Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene as well as police chiefs from Austintown, Boardman, Youngstown State University and Mill Creek MetroParks.

“We’d like to do some things in the community to continue the strides we’ve made,” Lees said.
