Akron man charged with Boardman assault

BOARDMAN — Umar Kamara, 47, of Akron faces charges of assault and felonious assault after police said he injured a woman by dragging her with his car down Market Street on Wednesday.

When police responded to the incident, they discovered that Kamara dragged the victim along with his car after they got into a dispute in his car, and the victim attempted to exit the vehicle before he started driving.

The victim told police that she yelled for him to stop, but instead he sped up. He also punched her in the face while he was driving, she said.

Kamara admitted to police that he pushed the victim and tried to get her out of his car while he was driving.

The victim sustained minor injuries.

Kamara was free on bond pending an appearance in Mahoning County Area Court here.
