YSU women defeat Oakland


— The Youngstown State women's basketball team scored 14 straight points near the end of the first half and shot 76 percent in the second half to beat Oakland 76-54 on Wednesday evening at Beeghly Center.

The Penguins outscored the Golden Grizzlies 48-32 in the second half to snap a two-game skid and improve to 16-7 overall and 5-5 in Horizon League play. Oakland drops to 10-13 overall and 4-6 in the conference.

Heidi Schlegel led all players with 20 points, and Nikki Arbanas set YSU's freshman record for 3-pointers made in a season with 42. Arbanas finished with 11 points, Kelsea Newman posted 13, and Latisha Walker had 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
