YSU women defeat Oakland
YOUNGSTOWN The Youngstown State women's basketball team scored 14 straight points near the end of the first half and shot 76 percent in the second half to beat Oakland 76-54 on Wednesday evening at Beeghly Center.
The Penguins outscored the Golden Grizzlies 48-32 in the second half to snap a two-game skid and improve to 16-7 overall and 5-5 in Horizon League play. Oakland drops to 10-13 overall and 4-6 in the conference.
Heidi Schlegel led all players with 20 points, and Nikki Arbanas set YSU's freshman record for 3-pointers made in a season with 42. Arbanas finished with 11 points, Kelsea Newman posted 13, and Latisha Walker had 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
