Plans move forward to add Warren to county 911 jurisdiction
Staff report
WARREN
The Warren Police Department appears to be moving forward with its dispatching operations being taken over by the Trumbull County 911 center in Howland.
At today’s meeting, the Trumbull County commissioners are expected to approve a resolution setting a 4 p.m. Feb. 19 meeting to convene the Trumbull County Planning Committee to discuss amending the county 911 plan to add the city of Warren to the jurisdiction of the county 911 Center.
Warren Police Chief Eric Merkel said Tuesday there are several steps required for the city’s dispatching operation to move, but he doesn’t foresee any complications with any of those steps.
He said he doesn’t have a date for when the merger might take place and doesn’t know how many of his dispatchers might move to the county center.
The move is expected to save the Warren Police Department about $500,000 per year.
