2 arrests made in 2014 Youngstown homicide
YOUNGSTOWN — Two more people were taken into custody today for their suspected roles in an August homicide on the South Side.
Darnell Wilkerson, 18, and a juvenile were both arrested on charges of involuntary manslaughter and aggravated riot, said police Lt. Doug Bobovnyik.
The arrests now bring to 14 the number of people charged in the brawl Aug. 17 on Winona Drive on the South Side that took the life of 17-year-old Shawn Cortez of West Ravenwood Avenue.
Police say Cortez was killed in a battle between two different groups who arranged to fight.
Two people were directly charged with murder for Cortez’s death while the remainder, including Wilkerson and the juvenile who was arrested, are charged with involuntary manslaughter and aggravated riot.
Bobovnyik said authorities had trouble identifying Wilkerson and the juvenile until recently.
