Not so ‘Good to Go’ when man gets $18,000 toll bridge bill

POULSBO, Wash.

A Washington state man says he just paid more than $18,000 in bridge tolls for his son who crossed the 520 bridge daily for work but never got a Good To Go pass.

KING-TV reports that Tom Rose’s son thought he would be billed for the tolls and that he could pay later.

His son never received a bill. He learned the total of what he owed when he tried to sell his car: more than $18,000. That’s $1,360 in tolls and more than $16,000 in penalties.

The department says they tried to bill Rose but their letters were returned. He will have to pay the tolls, but officials say they will try to work something out concerning the penalties.

KING-TV reports a lawyer has filed a class-action lawsuit against the department concerning its policies.

Charge dropped against man ticketed for eating while driving

MARIETTA, Ga.

A man who says he got a traffic ticket for eating a cheeseburger while driving in metro Atlanta won’t be prosecuted after all.

Cobb County Solicitor General Barry Morgan said in a written statement Friday that his office submitted a dismissal of the case against Madison Turner, and a judge signed it.

Morgan said the state didn’t believe it had the evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt, given the facts and circumstances his office investigated.

Turner, who lives in Alabama, said he was enjoying a double quarter-pounder with cheese as he drove down a highway outside Atlanta when he was ticketed for violating Georgia’s distracted-driving law.

He said the officer told him, “You can’t just go down the road eating a hamburger.”

California firefighters save horse stuck in outdoor bathtub

ORANGEVALE, Calif.

Firefighters in Northern California rescued a horse that got stuck in an outdoor bathtub.

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District Capt. Michelle Eidam says the horse was dancing around in her stall to protect the bathtub used as her food trough when she suddenly fell in Wednesday.

The horse, named Phantom, was stuck in the bathtub for about 25 minutes with her feet up in the air. Her owner saw the horse fall and called the fire department.

Between firefighters and the owner’s family, they were able to prop the bathtub on its side and pull Phantom forward onto her feet.

Phantom, a Palomino/Appaloosa mix, was not injured.
