Soil testing is topic of gardening event

CANFIELD

The importance of soil testing will be the topic of a 9:30 a.m. Feb. 18 “Coffee with the Master Gardeners” program at the Ohio State University Extension Office, 490 S. Broad St.

Dr. William Snyder, OSU master gardener volunteer, will discuss soil testing as a means of determining what nutrients soils possess and which additional ones they need to produce a healthy and productive garden.

Call 330-533-5538 by Feb. 16 to make reservations. The cost is $20 per person for the two-hour workshop; $10 for Mahoning County master gardener volunteers or Ohio-certified volunteer naturalists.

Cemetery cleanup

Paint a tree event

Munnell Run Farm, 24 Avalon Court, is adding an additional “Pigs & Paint” event in February at which guests will be taught to paint a birch tree by guest artisan Lauren Sheridan from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 18. The classes are taught step-by-step, and all ability levels are welcome.

Saturday shooting

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown police are investigating a shooting that occurred early Saturday, according to Vindicator broadcast partner 21 WFMJ-TV.

Youngstown police responded to the Partner’s Jazz and Blue’s Lounge on the corner of Oakh Hill and Falls avenues about 1:45 a.m.

When they arrived at the club, police discovered a man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for treatment.

The identity of the man and his condition have not yet been released.
