Nominations for the third annual Lawrence/Mercer County Athena Leadership Award and the Athena Young Professional Leadership Award are being accepted by the Community Foundation of Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio.

Nominations are due by March 24.

The awards honor those individuals who have achieved excellence in their business, profession or community service, have served the community in a meaningful way and have assisted women in their attainment of professional goals and leadership skills.

Awards will be presented April 21 at Park Inn by Radisson in West Middlesex.

Gardening class at OSU Extension office

Ohio State University Extension and Mahoning County Master Gardener Volunteers are offering a class.

“Coffee with the Master Gardeners” is nine-month series of morning sessions covering relevant gardening topics by season.

The third Wednesday of each month from February to October, Coffee with the Masters will meet from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Mahoning County OSU Extension office, 490 S. Broad St. in Canfield.

The first subject will be “Working from the Soil Up” on Feb. 18.

The cost is $10 for members of MGV and $20 per session for nonmembers.

Coffee and doughnuts will be served at each session.

Handouts will be available, and door prizes will be given.

Boardman Lions to give scholarships

BOARDMAN

The Boardman Lions Club will award two $1,000 scholarships in the spring to two graduating seniors who are residents of Boardman and will be attending a four-year college to pursue a bachelor’s degree.

Requirements are a 3.0 grade point average, 30 hours of community service from the sophomore year on, two recommendations and a personal essay.

Scholarships will be selected by the committee and awards will be announced at graduation.
