POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:
POLAND
Jan. 27
Arrest: Officers in the 2600 block of Algonquin Drive charged 60-year-old Robert W. Love of Weston Avenue, Youngstown, with operating a vehicle impaired.
Jan. 28
Burglary: To a residence in the 3400 block of Candywoods Drive through a rear door. Among items stolen were a 42-inch flat-screen TV, a printer/scanner device and an electronic tablet.
Feb. 1
Arrest: Police arrested a driver on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired after an accident in the 8800 block of Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road, though no information was in the report regarding the motorist.
BOARDMAN
Jan. 29
Arrest: Police in Niles arrested Michael D. Herman, 35, who listed Youngstown addresses on East Marion and Glenwood avenues and who was wanted on warrants charging robbery, assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and theft. Herman was accused of stealing merchandise Jan. 5 and 7 from Dollar General, 859 E. Midlothian Blvd., and of pushing an officer backward who tried to detain him during the latter shoplifting situation, then fleeing in a vehicle.
Auto theft/vandalism: A vehicle was returned to Hertz Rent-a-Car, 7735 Market St., after having been reported stolen from a Hertz location near the Akron-Canton Airport. The car also had been struck by bullets.
Burglary: Authorities took custody of 27-year-old Alfredo R. Harris II of Cornell Street, Youngstown, who was wanted on a burglary charge. Harris was accused in a Nov. 21 break-in at an Applecrest Court apartment from which about $1,800 worth of property was taken.
Identity fraud: A woman moving from her Market Street apartment and attempting to open a utility account reported having been told of an outstanding $350 bill in her name that originated from an address at which she never lived.
Theft by deception: Someone made a fraudulent return to Bed, Bath & Beyond, 550 Boardman-Poland Road, and received $160 in store credit for the blanket.
Theft: An East Liverpool woman reported her $700 iPhone missing while at a Doral Drive big-box store.
Identity fraud: A Paxton Road woman discovered someone had been using her name to harass another woman in California.
Theft: A woman was caught on a surveillance camera stealing roughly $500 worth of merchandise from Dollar General, 8573 Market St.
Arrest: Michelle S. Hrosar, 26, of Vestal Road, Youngstown, surrendered on a charge of complicity to theft, related to a Jan. 5 shoplifting situation in which roughly $43 worth of merchandise was stolen from Dollar General, 859 E. Midlothian Blvd.
Theft: Youngstown police handed 32-year-old Sheila M. Johnson to township authorities. Johnson, of Craiger Avenue, Youngstown, was accused of stealing three articles of clothing Jan. 6 from Dillard’s in Southern Park Mall.
Jan. 30
Theft: Harry P. Carcase III of Glenridge Road, Boardman, faced charges of theft and possession of drug paraphernalia after several sweatshirts were stolen from Dick’s Sporting Goods, 550 Boardman-Poland Road. The 22-year-old Carcase also had a suspected marijuana pipe and a digital scale, police said.
Stolen property: Officers answered a suspicious-person call in the 6200 block of Market Street before taking into custody 55-year-old Mark A. Rogers of West Boardman Street, Youngstown, who was wanted on a felony warrant charging receiving stolen property. Rogers was accused of bringing a stolen computer last September to Cyber Express, 6128 Market St., for repairs.
Theft/drugs: Noreen Q. Jordan, 33, of Akron was charged with one felony count of theft and one misdemeanor count each of possession of drugs, drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia after $2,428 worth of merchandise, including six laptop computers, was stolen from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive. Jordan also had a spoon with burn marks common in drug use, a syringe with suspected drug residue and a suspected rock of crack cocaine in an eyeglass case, a report showed.
Theft: Three women reportedly stole six shirts and four jackets from Victoria Secret’s Pink in Southern Park Mall, costing the business $600.
Theft: Tanyce C. Johnson, 18, of Drummond Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with taking about $20 worth of items, including baby food, from Walmart.
Fraud: A Doncaster Drive woman reported a caller who claimed she had won $500,000 in a sweepstakes drawing also ordered her to buy a $500 money card and provide her personal-identification numbers. She lost no money, however.
Theft: A Sharon, Pa., woman discovered a credit card had been taken from her room at a Market Street motel, and that $400 was missing from her account.
Theft: A woman in her 60s stole a $110 hooded sweatshirt from Victoria Secret’s Pink.
Jan. 31
Arrest: Police received information that a possibly drunken driver had struck a mailbox on Cathy Ann Drive before charging 62-year-old Larry Wilkes of Cathy Ann, Boardman, with operating a vehicle impaired.
Burglary: Took place in the 40 block of Beechwood Drive via a rear door. Stolen was a 32-inch TV valued at $500.
Theft: Stephanie L. Sattarelle, 31, of East Lucius Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with removing several articles of women’s clothing from Kmart, 1209 Boardman-Poland Road.
Theft: A driver with Independent Radio Taxi Inc. of Youngstown told police a man failed to pay a $44 fare, then ran into a building in the 60 block of Shields Road.
Drugs: Police on Doral Drive pulled over and charged 29-year-old Ladonna M. Taylor of Hunter Avenue, Youngstown, with possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructing official business and aggravated possession of drugs after saying she had two white pills and a digital scale. Taylor, who also was wanted on a warrant, provided false personal information, authorities alleged.
Theft: A woman reported $1,100 stolen from her purse at her East Western Reserve Road home.
Theft: Police charged 33-year-old Jill E. Hoolahan of Gibson Avenue, Youngstown, in the theft of a sweater and a pair of blue jeans from Walmart.
Arrest: A vehicle check in the 5200 block of Market Street led to the arrest of 35-year-old Ronyale D. McCullough, who listed Warren addresses on Penn Street and Ferndale Avenue, Southwest. He was wanted on a warrant charging child endangerment.
Feb. 1
Arrest: A traffic stop on East Midlothian Boulevard resulted in the arrest of 35-year-old Scott A. Bierig of Wiseman Street, Youngstown, who was wanted on a warrant charging failure to appear in court.
Auto theft: At least two vehicles were reported missing from the lot at Donnell Ford, 7955 Market St.
Assault: Two people reported having been struck in the face during an argument at an apartment in the 100 block of Carter Circle. A woman had redness under her right eye.
Arrest: Yolanda O. Hargrove, 38, was taken into custody after police had conducted a vehicle check on East Midlothian Boulevard. Hargrove, of East Boston Avenue, Youngstown, was wanted on a warrant accusing her of failing to appear in court.
Attempted burglary: Someone tried to enter an apartment in the 4000 block of Hillman Way and damaged a door frame.
Feb. 2
Theft: A ski jacket and pair of ski boots and pants, along with $15, were removed from a car in the 4200 block of Chester Drive.
Criminal damaging: A bullet hole was found on a building’s roof in the 4000 block of Simon Road. Damage came to $100.
Theft: A man reportedly stole a $750 iPhone from Sprint PCS in Southern Park Mall.
Criminal mischief: Someone intentionally pushed a large pile of snow in front of a doorway to block access to a business in the 6000 block of Market Street.
Theft: A Hudson Drive woman noticed $10 missing from her vehicle.
Identity theft: An elderly Melrose Avenue woman found out someone without authorization had gained access to her husband’s checking account, tried to re-route his checks and place a hold on his mail.
Theft: A woman reported her $125 cellphone stolen while at a McClurg Road business.
Theft: A student enrolled at Mahoning Unlimited Classroom in Southern Park Mall reportedly borrowed but failed to return a $350 laptop computer.
Indecency: A worker for a Boardman-Poland Road store told police a man with black hair wearing red shorts as well as a black knit cap and sweatshirt exposed himself to her through a window.
Theft: An employee for a Boardman-Canfield Road fast-food restaurant reported a $100 cellphone stolen while at work.
Feb. 3
Arrest: Officers at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital arrested 53-year-old Gregory A. Jones Sr. of Republic Avenue, Youngstown, on a misdemeanor warrant charging falsification. On Jan. 13, Jones claimed a gunman had robbed him of money and pain medication in the Walmart parking lot, yet a surveillance camera showed him entering the store and no sign that such a crime had taken place, a police report stated.
Fraud: A Reedsville, Ohio, woman discovered her bank card had been used to make three unauthorized purchases totaling $444 at Walmart.
Theft: A man took a $19 hooded sweatshirt from Walmart.
Indecency: A worker for a Market Street restaurant alleged a man exposed himself to her while using a restroom. The man alleged that during an argument about using the restroom, the employee had followed him in.
Theft: Two plastic seat covers, a reflector and two light fixtures were removed from a car in the 20 block of Maple Drive.
Bad check: A man performing plumbing services at a Ronlee Lane residence told officers a woman gave him a $660 check that had a stop-payment status attached to it.
Theft by deception: An elderly Daffodil Trail man reported a caller told him to send $4,500 via nine money cards to get his grandson released from jail after a supposed accident. The man, however, learned that it was a scam and lost no money.
Feb. 4
Bad check: Authorities took custody of Karissa P. Johnson of Paisley Street, Austintown. Johnson, 19, was wanted on a felony charge of passing a bad check related to a Jan. 16 situation in which she was accused of writing a $1,950 check as a down payment for a vehicle at Taylor Kia of Boardman, 7870 Market St., that was returned for nonsufficient funds.
Unauthorized use of a vehicle: Youngstown police relinquished custody of Sarah L. Leflore, 38, of Earle Avenue, Youngstown, who was wanted on a warrant charging unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor. A man reported that while staying at a Market Street motel in July 2013, Leflore had borrowed but failed to return his 2005 Hyundai Sonata.
