Facing charges
AUSTINTOWN
A Warren man faces felony charges of breaking and entering and possessing criminal tools after he was arrested during a break-in early Friday.
Township police arrested John Orosz, 46, at a building on South Canfield-Niles Road after getting a report about someone trying to get into the residence.
Police searched the residence and reportedly found Orosz hiding in a basement corner.
A witness reported that he saw the suspect jump into a window of the residence to gain entry.
When police found Orosz, he reportedly had a Batman mask, a wrench, a screwdriver and a head lamp light in his possession Orosz was taken to the Mahoning County jail. He is scheduled to appear Monday in Mahoning County Area Court here.
Music festival
WARREN
The Sacred Music Festival planned Sunday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Warren by Mahoning Valley Association of Churches has been canceled.
Vogler announces
NEW CASTLE, PA.
Dan Vogler, chairman of the Lawrence County commissioners, announced this week he will seek re-election. He plans to run in the Republican primary election May 19.
Vogler, 55, of Neshannock Township, was first elected in 2003. He served as board chairman from 2004 to 2008 and also from 2012 to present. Before his election, Vogler spent most of his career as director of governmental affairs at New Castle-based Pennsylvania Power Co. A native of Wampum, Pa., Vogler is a graduate of Mohawk High School and Westminster College.
Drug charges
BOARDMAN
A township man faces felony charges of trafficking in drugs and drug possession and a misdemeanor charge of drug paraphernalia after police arrested him on a warrant.
Airrhon Kimbrough, 24, of Shields Road, pleaded not guilty to the charges in Mahoning County Area Court here Thursday.
The charges stem from a Tuesday police search of Kimbrough’s residence. Police reportedly found prescription pills, suspected marijuana, drug paraphernalia and $450 in cash in the apartment.
Kimbrough is scheduled to appear in court March 17 for a pretrial hearing.
Open house
youngstown
Cardinal Mooney High School, 2545 Erie St., will host an open house for prospective students and their families from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Parking ban
YOUNGSTOWN
Starting Monday and going to May 15, parking will be prohibited on Hazel Street between West Boardman and West Federal streets with one lane of traffic open going northbound.
The restrictions are needed to allow for the exterior renovations of the Wells Building by Strollo Architects.
State testing
BELOIT
The West Branch School District will host an informational meeting regarding the statewide Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers testing at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the high school cafeteria.
State Sen. Joe Schiavoni of Boardman, D-33rd, will attend to answer questions. The district will offer a brief presentation about the state testing and the testing procedures. The meeting is open to all Mahoning Valley parents.
