Michael Garvey, CEO of Youngstown-based manufacturing company M-7 Technologies, was appointed to the visiting committee on advanced technology for a three-year term for the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
“It is a huge honor to be selected to serve on such a prestigious board with such accomplished individuals helping to guide the primary American organization that creates the science to guide the establishment of both domestic and international product standards,” said Garvey, who’s company is a member of America Makes, formerly the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute, in downtown Youngstown.
Founded in 1901, NIST is one of the nation’s oldest physical science laboratories. Garvey attended his first committee meeting Wednesday and Thursday, on NIST’s Gaithersburg, Md., campus located near Washington, D.C.
U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Howland, D-13th, congratulated Garvey on the appointment in a statement: “Mike Garvey is one of the [Mahoning] Valley’s great leaders, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology is lucky to have him on their advisory committee. The extraordinary work Mike has done at M-7 Technology, America Makes and throughout his career makes him the perfect addition to NIST. I congratulate Mike on being named to this prestigious position.”
