By John Benson
For the better part of the past 15 years, Brad Paisley has been one of country music’s biggest stars.
Not only has the West Virginia native scored 22 No. 1 singles (writing or co-writing 19), but he’s won three Grammy awards, two American Music awards, 14 Academy of Country Music awards and 14 Country Music Association awards.
Presently, Paisley is on the road with his Country Nation World Tour, which has a Friday date at sold-out Covelli Centre.
Here are 10 things you might not have known about the Grand Ole Opry member:
Paisley had his first guitar at age 8 and was singing in church at 10.
While in junior high, Paisley joined radio show “Jamboree U.S.A.” He opened for everyone from the Judds and Ricky Skaggs to George Jones.
Before graduating from Nashville’s Belmont University, Paisley attended West Liberty State College near Wheeling, W.Va.
Fresh out of college, Paisley watched his song “Another You” become a top-five hit for David Kersh.
Paisley’s first No. 1 tune was “He Didn’t Have to Be” from his 1999 debut effort, “Who Needs Pictures.”
Paisley is married to “Nashville” actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley.
Not only did Paisley contribute two songs to the soundtrack of Disney animated film “Planes: Fire & Rescue,” but he was also the voice of a pickup truck named Bubba.
This past summer, Paisley was an expert on ABC’s singing competition “Rising Star.”
Paisley’s latest single is “Perfect Storm,” which is from his chart-topping 2014 album “Moonshine in the Trunk.” The album’s lead single, “River Bank,” was a top-15 hit.
“Moonshine in the Trunk” includes duets with Carrie Underwood (“High Life”) and Emmylou Harris (“Gone Green”).
