Judge Krichbaum to retire but stay on the bench

YOUNGSTOWN

Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court has filed paperwork to retire before his new term begins.

According to Bret Crow, a spokesman with the state Supreme Court, Judge Krichbaum was appointed as a visiting judge for a period of a week between when his old term ends and his new term begins. Crow said Judge Krichbaum will not be paid for the period he is a visiting judge.

He will then be sworn in to begin his next term Monday.

Crow said he did not know how the judge’s pension will work when he is serving his new term.

Judge Krichbaum was unopposed in November’s general election.

He is the second judge on the court to retire within a year. Last summer, former Judge James C. Evans retired. His place was taken when Gov. John Kasich appointed Judge Shirley J. Christian to take his place.

The term Judge Krichbaum is being sworn in for Monday will be his sixth fifth-year term on the bench.
