Marian Commons project on Youngstown's North Side gets funding

YOUNGSTOWN — A $7.1-million affordable housing project expected to go under construction this year received a $700,000 Federal Home Loan Bank Affordable Housing Program grant.

Marian Commons, a 40-unit project under development by Compass Family & Community Services, Meridian Community Care and Help Hotline Crisis Center will provide permanent supportive housing for those with substance-abuse and mental-health disorders.

The apartment complex will be built at the site of the former Martin Luther King Elementary School on the city’s North Side. The project’s designs were approved in June by the city’s design review committee.

Huntington Bank awarded $420,000 of the $700,000 to the project.
